A special Wainwright Gathering

A glittering array of Wainwright luminaries

This select gathering of notable people in the Wainwright world enjoyed a very special evening sharing memories of the great man.

The Guest List

Sharing memories of Alfred Wainwright

The Wainwright event, held at 'The Villa Levens' Kendal in November 2019, was organised by Chris and his wife Priscilla as their way of thanking the many people who, over the previous three years, had helped Chris to amass an unprecedented collection of Wainwright memorabilia and artefacts.

This was the first time these notable people in the Wainwright world were in the same room together. Some had never met and some had not connected for more than thirty years.  It was Chris's idea to bring them together so that they could share their memories and discuss their love of Wainwright and his work.

Chris gave an initial address, describing his passion for Wainwright and how his archive had developed. Other speakers followed with their own reflections. Following the success of the event, Chris is looking to plan a similar larger event in the near future.

Press Coverage

The event was covered in a number of publications, including Lakeland Walker, The Westmorland Gazette and Cumbria Life.

Press Coverage

Wainwright was actually a kind, caring man, not the jack-the-lad that appears in Pennine Way.

One reason AW has an image of being a curmudgeonly old duffer is we didn't get to him sooner!
